The Bürger-Windpark Wiemersdorf GmbH was founded in 1997 by 12 wind pioneers from the municipality of Wiemersdorf in order to advance the planning and projecting of the first wind turbines in Wiemersdorf. Since 2001, a total of 45 limited partners from the region have been operating 6 Enercon E-70 type wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.8 MW. In 2004, the community wind farm was expanded and 3 additional repower wind turbines of type MD 77 with a capacity of 1.5 MW each were installed. With 28 million kWh generated electricity, not only Wiemersdorf, but also the sub-center Bad Bramstedt can be supplied with green electricity all year round.
