This Section covers a number of subjects which can be classified under the ‘design’ specification. It starts by a brief overview of the events which where used to define the range of loads imposed on structural components and equipment. The material properties of the metal and concrete used in construction of the structures and components of the plant are summarized. Criteria for choosing equipment characteristics are presented. The Section is concluded by describing the testing of equipment and the testing program completed during initial startup and initial power operation.
Only a brief description of some of the events which result in the imposition of loads (e.g. DB and SB-LOCA events) is given in this Section. A more complete description is provided in the Subsections that analyze the thermal-hydraulic response of the plant and the design and performance of the safety related equipment.
