BRILLIANT project – Cooperation in the Baltic region

The region of the European Union around the Baltic Sea, particularly such countries as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are not adequately integrated to the European electricity grid. At the end of 2009 Ignalina NPP, which generated ~70-75 % of electricity in Lithuania and supplied electricity to Latvia and Estonia, was permanently shutdown leaving the region without nuclear power generation.


LEI Contribution to Transfer of Knowledge on Nuclear Safety

The European Nuclear Safety Training and Tutoring Institute (ENSTTI) was created by Technical Safety Organization Network (ETSON) with the ultimate goal to provide initial training and continuous qualification programs to ensure that personnel at Nuclear Regulatory Authorities and Technical Safety Organizations can maintain skills in their current positions and remain prepared to take on emerging tasks or advancements.

14th Conference Of Young Scientists On Energy Issues (Cyseni 2017)

The main goal of CYSENI is to discuss issues and perspectives of energy sector worldwide; as well as to provide a free platform for young scientists to develop their skills. Ph. D. students, postdocs, master students and all other young scientists doing research on energy issues are welcome to the Conference as speakers and participants, free of charge.

52nd ESReDA Seminar on Critical Infrastructures

On the 30th – 31st May 2017, ESReDA (European Safety, Reliability & Data Association) in collaboration with Lithuanian Energy Institute and Vytautas Magnus University had organized the 52nd ESReDA Seminar on Critical Infrastructures: Enhancing Preparedness & Resilience for the security of citizens and services supply continuity (Kaunas, Lithuania).

China and Ukraine Establish Joint Venture for NPP Decommissioning

On 22 March 2017, the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS), Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Chinese Company “Qingdao Xianchu Energy Development Group” signed an Agreement on Establishing the Joint Venture “China-Ukraine Xianchu Nuclear Powder Decommissioning Academy”.

SSTC NRS Included in European Clearinghouse Technical Council

The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) was included into the Technical Council of the European Clearinghouse, the network for analysis of NPP operating experience supported by the European Commission (EC). The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) was included into the European Clearinghouse Oversight Committee.
