Official start of a Horizon 2020 Twinning project TWIN-PEAKS coordinated by LEI

Today is the official start of a Horizon 2020 Twinning project TWIN-PEAKS coordinated by LEI (Twinning for Promoting Excellence, Ability and Knowledge to develop advanced waste gasification Solutions).

The overall objective of the TWIN-PEAKS project is to establish a research and innovation collaboration between LEI, VMU and foreign partners TUM, CTH and WIP to raise the scientific excellence, capacities and international reputation of LEI and VMU in advanced waste gasification and synthetic biofuels production.

The two Lithuanian partners are the leading energy research organisations in their country and complement well each other: LEI is a state scientific research institute performing fundamental and applied research in the field of energy and thermal engineering, especially advanced waste gasification and synthetic biofuels production; VMU is a leading university in Lithuania with research expertise in the understanding of underlying socio-economic dynamics and systemic application of innovative measures for successful transition towards climate neutral performance. Both institutions collaborate through the Energy Security Research Centre they have co-established in 2009.

LEI and VMU will twin with 3 leading research and SME institutions in the field of bioenergy, including waste-to-energy: Technical University of Munich (Germany), Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and WIP Renewable Energies GmbH & Co. KG (Germany).

“We are proud to have on board such a strong consortium with internationally leading partners in the field of bioenergy. This project is like a “gate” to a broader horizons and networking expansion for early-stage and experienced researchers collaborating at interinstitutional and international R&D&I level developing advanced waste-to-energy solutions and synthetic biofuels, including evaluation of technologies acceptance and socio-economic impact.” – says A. Tamošiūnas, coordinator of the project.
