This proposal for a Thematic Network responds to the Growth-Dedicated Call – 10/00 – Topic IV: Implementation of measuring instruments directives according to the New Approach. The type of Network is a support group to Research Infrastructure under the generic activity Measurement and Testing in the Growth Work Programme. The proposal is based on the experience with the implementation of the Non-automatic weighing instruments (NAWI) Directive. The Notified Bodies of this Directive needed guidance documents to ensure uniform interpretation of the regulations and uniform certification practice. This work has been performed under WELMEC. The Measurement Instruments Directive, another New Approach Directive, will be implemented within 2 to 3 years. Far more instruments will be subject to this Directive than to the NAWI Directive. Therefore, the need for guidance documents is far more as well.
