The Network of Competency SARNET – the project for the Integration and management of severe accidents phenomena in research in Europe – was launched in March, 2004. The SARNET project lasted for four years. The coordinator of this project is the IRSN Company (France). Scientific institutions of 49 European Union countries participated in this project, among which was the Lithuanian Energy Institute. The main objectives of the SARNET project were to combine the research of severe accidents carried out by different European scientific organizations and to harmonize the research methodologies used. Common forces identified and classified safety issues, initiated and implemented new serious accident investigation programs, discussed the results obtained.

Specialits of Laboratory of Nuclear Inatalations participated in 6 working packages:

  • PHYMA (Physical model assessment)
  • RAB (Reactor application and benchmarking)
  • PSA2 (Level 2 PSA methodology and advanced tools)
  • HBC (Hydrogen behaviour in containment)
  • BOOK (Develop a text book or source book on Severe Accident Phenomenology)
