The revised EU Air Quality Directive in 2024 has introduced the obligation to measure novel particulate matter (PM) metrics such as ultrafine particles and black carbon (BC). Additionally, the limit values for PM2.5 mass concentrations were lowered by more than 50 %. This project aims to support the member states in meeting the new challenging metrological requirements for these metrics such as lower limit values for PM2.5, the mandatory measurement of new particulate matter metrics such as (ultrafine) particle number concentration (PNC) and particle number size distribution (PNSD), black carbon and the installation of supersites. The overall objective of the project is to develop a comprehensive metrological framework to support the member states in meeting the requirements of the EU 2024/2881 Air Quality Directive with respect to the particulate matter metrics.
