HR Excellence in Research

The main objective of the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI), a public research institution, is to ensure internationally recognized competence in technology and social sciences. The Institute conducts long-term fundamental and applied scientific research and experimental development activities essential for the sustainable development of Lithuania’s energy sector and other branches of the national economy and their integration into the European energy systems and the European Research Area.

Therefore, the Lithuanian Energy Institute seeks to become an attractive institution for experienced and early-stage researchers looking for a new employer or host institution for their scientific projects.

To support this goal, the Institute’s administration has made a strategic decision to pursue the “HR Excellence in Research” Award – a prestigious quality label awarded by the European Commission to research institutions that commit to improving working conditions for researchers, managing human resources transparently and responsibly, and implementing the highest ethical standards.

This award signifies the institution’s commitment to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, which aim to:

  • Ensure open, transparent, and merit-based recruitment of researchers.
  • Improve working conditions and career development opportunities for researchers.
  • Promote researcher mobility and international cooperation.
  • Increase the attractiveness of research institutions to talented researchers.

Benefits of the HR Excellence in Research Award for LEI:

  1. Recognition in Europe
    • The institution is recognized as a reliable and responsible employer for researchers.
    • The award provides a competitive advantage in international funding calls and projects (especially under Horizon Europe).
  2. Attraction for Researchers
    • Helps to attract research talent, especially international.
    • Signals a commitment to integrity, transparent career progression, and development opportunities.
  3. Continuous Improvement
    • LEI commits to regularly assessing its progress (through internal reviews and external audits).
    • Encourages developing and implementing a structured Action Plan to improve researchers’ rights and working conditions.
