The major goal of the this CRP is to develop experimental procedures for the reproducible measurements of delayed hydride cracking velocity of zirconium alloy cladding. In this process, input data for the validation of predictive models of delayed hydride cracking in zirconium alloys will be collected. A secondary but equally important objective would be to provide technology transfer al the laboratory level from the host laboratory and supervisory group of the CRP to the participating Institutes in developing Member States.

LEI activities in the Project

Determination of delayed hydride cracking velocity in samples of zirconium alloy cladding tubes containing a known amount of hydrogen. Testing of a crack growth rate in specimens was performed at a constant loading along with characterization of the tested material properties, including fractographic and metallographic examination of the tested samples.

Total cost: 200 000 USD (LEI part: 15 000 USD)
