The Nordic-Baltic Conference on International Research Cooperation

16 September 2020
Tartu, Estonia

The conference will be a platform to exchange experience on various aspects of international research cooperation, primarily in the context of the soon-to-be completed framework programme Horizon 2020.
The aim is to bring together various stakeholders involved in international research cooperation: researchers, experts, research policy makers, officials and other stakeholders from across the Nordic states and the Baltics.

The conference will focus on three thematic areas:

  1. Engaging and supporting newcomers. In this first block, we plan to discuss how to better engage new participants, especially non-academic stakeholders, to the activities of the framework programme. How to motivate enterprises, governmental bodies and non-profit organisations, professional associations, cultural and other institutions to invest time and resources in preparing projects and applying for funding in the very competitive international research arena; how to demonstrate the impact and benefits of international collaboration and networking?
  2. Incentivising leadership. In the second block, the goal is to identify the current obstacles and potential solutions for potential applicants in becoming more proactive in research cooperation, as coordinators of the consortia or leaders of international projects. What are the challenges of building a successful consortium and leading a multi-beneficiary project; what kind of support would ease the burden?
  3. Strategic approaches to international collaboration. The third thematic block focuses on strategic planning and alignment of national strategies with the EU priorities. We invite experts to share their national practices and experience with strategic decision making and priority setting.

The conference is organised by the Estonian Research Council (ETAg) and is funded from the EEA and Norway Grants 2014–2021 Fund for Bilateral Relations.

The conference will be held in English.
